Why is it that whenever I play a person ranked General, the game "breaks" RIGHT before I win? I'm going to point fingers here and name General Wanderer and General rockie.

Rockie challenged me on Emerald, game #8145, and the game was very close and hard-fought the entire time. On turn 21 though, when we each only had a few units left, I finally gained the upper hand when I had some transports, tanks, and ostrichs left against a few LAVs and Rocket Launchers. Then suddenly the game appears in my list as finished, labled NAN. Okay, I thought, I would have won, but bad luck. It never appeared broken to me, and I never gave my approval for it to end in a draw.

Then, General Wanderer challenged me on Anubis, game #10267. I made fairly quick work of him early and destroyed his largest country, and there was absolutely no chance of him making a turnaround. Then, the game appears finished in my list, labled NAN, without it ever appearing broken and without my approval to finish.

So... what gives? I want my wins. I can provide replays if necessary.

All my finished games are coming up as NAN lately, and I just assumed that I had won or lost them due to percentages or surrenders or whatever and not really payed much attention to it... come to think of it what does NAN stand for?

This is a very serious accusation. If you only have these two examples, I think you should have checked with the devs what the server says about these games first.

Oh, well. Waiting in anticipation on what the result turns out to be. If there really IS a gamecrash-exploit in the game that'd be very, very bad. :(

"NaN" stands for "Not a Number".

<boring geek talk>
It's not really descriptive in cases like this, but it is by convenience a synonym to "N/A=Not Applicable", because "NaN" is a built-in value in many programming languages and they handle number to text conversions for this value automatically.

It sounds like a lesser person by rank beat a greater person by rank and it is sooooo backwards to the computer that it couldn't understand it, so it was assigned a value of
. _____
. /
-/ -1

That number does exist in the two-dimensional number system, and would be displayed as i or (0+1i), not NaN. :)

The point is, the computer is stupid and would not know it was i, and if it tried a math process on it, it would return something like "undefined," which the game might interpret as NaN.

for better results, try 1/0 or

.................( 1 )
lim............( 1. )
x->infinity..( x )

It comes out to be 1/0 too.

how about

x+2=f(x)
x-2

f'(2)=?
It is 4/0.
Also undefined.
Computers don't think unless an exception is programmed into them. So my statement might have truth yet.
Please fix the problem.[/u]

A NAN means that for some reason the game was cancelled, due to it being broken or otherwise. It will not affect your scores either way.

As far as what NAN stands for in the devs' minds, or why these particular games were cancelled, I do not know. Were games started during the beta run cancelled? That could be one possibility.

With that in mind, it may be possible that these were mere coincidences.
Why should anybody play Massive Assault on the internet if so many games break. It would make me angry.

Exactly...

I suppose I'm not really accusing anybody... I'm just pissed that my games are broken, again. I'm in double digits for broken games now, and I was PROUD of these two games here. ;)

hey

i had a game break on me, but then i relized what it was.

let me tell you in a round about way, so that yo may see.

while playing a game... i read a message about new patch or new map packs... and so i d/l them... then when i went back to the game it broke or hanged.... and then i figgerd it out.

all the maps have a time/date stamp on them. so if a sneaky player tries to modify the map with a path thru a mountain that does not exsist on the other players map then the server rejects it.

and or if the time date stamps differ between the 2 players then the server rejects it...or something like that...well after i figgerd that then the solution was obvious.

uninstall the game delete all, reinstall the game(keep the main 201,man map pack, and patch in a backup folder) reinstall 201....only...if your playing the trial you dont need the maps or patch.

if your playing other maps make sure you have the
www.massiveassaultnetworks.com/download ... k_beta.exe
in your backup folder also. use the beta....its error free.

and if you absoulutley must play brimstone....use the other map pack.

that should fix ya. enjoy and see you in game.
