I notice that when I choose the scenario "Rapid Liberation", adjusting the "AI Strength" only seems to give the AI more units. Is this correct, or is the AI using better algorithms as well?

The major difference - YES - it's the number of enemy / human units.
On Easy the A.I. has considerably less units, which makes this scenario easier. And the A.I. is acting slightly differently - it calculates less tactical combinations, so from time to time an Annihilator can "forget" to finish your Robot or a Tank can move away from the front instead of engaging your lines.

You know, making A.I. more stupid happened to be much more difficult task than making it "smarter". We decided that our two A.I. developers would better spend their time and efforts on implementing the Transports and further strategic/tactical A.I.'s skills.

That's why all the scenarios and campaigns have been carefully rebalance by our level desingers to fit into 3 various difficulty levels.
And I PERSONALLY played all EASY and MEDIUM scenarios to make sure that they are really easy and medium!

Thanks for the reply. Here's another question...

I have tried at least a dozen different strategies to beat the scenario "Squeeze Them!" on the Hard difficulty setting. Is it even possible???

i think this Sqeeze them replay was made at hard difficulty...though i doubt difficulty really matters there this is after all an easy scenario.I really wonder though where can you find a dozen of strategies for this one because there is only one strategy i can see here - the most stupid frontal attack from both sides (and it works perfectly :D )

Mrakobes -

In your replay, you have many more forces than the version of the scenario I am playing. Yes, I can see how a stupid frontal attack would work with this large of an attacking force. If you can do this scenario on Hard, I would love to see it! Thanks for the help!

i see now - the previous replay was made on pre-patch version and i was not aware that there was difference in units numbers in this specific case. But still - in prepatch version user started with 11 tanks now he starts with 9 and this is only difference i see. Here is another replay for you just made it on my current version on hard setting - and still it is won by same stupid frontal attack - and having just 2 tanks less does not make this scenario any harder.
IF you have some odd version where user starts with even less amount of troops than this i can not help.

Sweet! Thanks... That reply matches the balance of forces that I am seeing, and I was able to pick up a few tips. I think my major mistake was bringing my Heavy Bot too far into the heart of the battle, instead of keeping it on the edge of it's range. In addition, I wasn't concentrating my fire on the more important enemy units. Finally, I was able to hold onto my Rocket Launcher for the whole battle...

Sorry for being such a N00b, but I've only had the game about a week. Your reply really helped!!!
