I have gotten this error before occasionally, but now I have been getting it since yesterday afternoon.
It reads:
connecting to game server...
connecting to game server failed!
make sure you are connected to the internet.
blah blah blah.
I was just wondering if it was on your end or mine?
I am connected to the internet (always on).
It sometimes happens when I leave my computer for a while and the screen saver comes on - then I have to restart to get on to MA. But since yesterday afternoon I cant connect, I have tried restarting MA and my computer but i still can't connect.
Any suggestions?

This kind of stuff happens when the server is overloaded. Don't worry about it and just connect later.

The devs are working on it.

I know it happens once in a while but at midnight-3 in the morning, i've also tried at 5-11pm and 11am-1pm. Its never gone this long without connecting before.
Maybe its more users.

there were no indication of server overload yet...
The server is quite stable (in terms of traffic) and it's a long way to go until it gets overloaded ...

However, there may be two reasons for that:
a) Sometimes the server is manually restarted, when small changes are made into the game server software (but that shouldn't be happening for more than a couple of minutes per day.

b) some other plaeyrs having similar problem got it resolved by contacting their network administrators or ISP's, because some admins or ISP's or firewalls sometimes block certain IP's and ports.

Please, try to contact your system admin and ask if he did any changes to the internet connection properties lately.

I don't know what the problem was but I can connect now.
I only posted because that was the first time I could'nt connect for more than a few minutes.
