Post subject: Is it a Bug?
PostPosted: Mon Nov 24, 2003 12:16 am
I'm playing the campaign
The first one, and in the 4th part, when it starts loading... something strange happends

The game continue loading but I can move my units.
After a few movements (with the load bar in the bottom of my screen), the game freezes and I have to kill it.
Is it a common bug or just in my pc?

Thanks to everyone.

I just received a turn from Dungary and it hangs before it is completed. I had to kill MA via the task manager - not the turn will not even load completely - it hangs before the last progress lamp (LED?) lights. I've tried everything: restart the gamne, reboot my system, "Repair" the turn. But nothing helps.

Because of this and the single player - World War bug (the game looses sequence and hangs during turn transfer), I'm going to stop playing MA until a patch comes out.

By the way. I've heard that they are aware of the singler player hang-up problem and have fixed it already and that a patch is coming out soon.

tokyodan,
Massive Assault (like most other games) has some bugs. The most unpleasant two of them are "Sometimes net game appears to be broken" and "Sometimes computer freeze during AI turn". Both these bugs are realy rare. So you can continue to play MA and get a lot of fun.

I can try to repair your broken game manually (if you want). Also I will be glad to get a challenge from you on Antarcticus 8)

Thanks for your help and patience. And thanks for fixing my user profile. Great support. And great game. Even with the few (very few) problems I am enjoying the game. It is the perfect game for me. But before I play another WorldWar game I want to wait for the patch because I don't want to get halfway through a game only to hang. In the meantime I am playing the scenarios and carring on 3 online games.

Thanks Again.

I am playing the Paradise World War, and a series of bugs appeared. The game freezes (the cursor still works), but I can get it started by pressing escape on everything I do. Eventually the game gets caught between two AI messages and I have to altt-delete out of the game. Also I saw that one of my units was on the same hex as the enemy. My autosave and saved game are both corrupted. Over five hours of play down the drain.

This is a game-killing bug.

All what you need, it is restart particular step of campaign. Usualy this helps.
Single Player->campaign->Battle for Paradise->Continue from step X

I found this in the "comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic" newsgroup:
-------------------
Since I have been giving good comments on this excellent game, I feel
obligated to point out a game-killing bug. In the first few evenings
of play with the scenarios and campaigns, the game ran flawlessly.
There is a small bug in one scenario where enemy units pop up in your
territory, but this can be avoided by restarting a saved game from the
campaign menu as explained by the developer in the other thread.I can
live with this bug.

The most fun part of this game is the World Wars, which of course one
should avoid until relatively familiar with the mechanics and tactics
of the game. World Wars are fought on a whole planet, with a number of
secret allies on both sides, so there are always a few battles going
on. In the largest war on Planet Paradise, I had a half dozen battles
going on simultaneously.

Now the bug: at one point, the game failed to respond, although the
cursor still worked. I found that I could continue playing by pressing
escape for each thing I did. But at one point, the game got caught
between two messages and I had to control-alt-delete out. Both the
autosave and my previously saved game were corrupt, the autosave would
not load and the saved game had the same bug.

I lost over five hours of play. Then I just found from the forum that
this is a known bug and that it makes the World Wars unplayable. For
me this is a game killer, and I am giving up the game until the
promised patch comes out. I find it hard to understand how such an
obvious bug made it through Beta testing.

I you don't mind playing only the scenarios and Campaigns and can do
without the World Wars, then you can get the game.
