Maelstrom says:
So you work in an AI lab?

Pitor says:
yes, im working in brussels university

Maelstrom says:
Nice! As a student?

Pitor says:
researcher
Pitor says:
and you ?

Maelstrom says:
Sweet Thats gotta be fun

Pitor says:
its clearly fun. I do what I loke
Pitor says:
like

Maelstrom says:
I'm the User Interface Team Lead for an Engineering company.

Pitor says:
nice
Pitor says:
and you seems interested by AI
Pitor says:
Ive liked your message on the forum
Pitor says:
and I would like to know how is working their AI motor

Maelstrom says:
I'm looking at a few gaming jobs. Thats the only thing I'd rather do
than work at an AI place
Maelstrom says:
No kidding, it'd be fun to play with
Maelstrom says:
They really do have quite the impressive AI, considering it does not do
one bit of "cheating"

Pitor says:
indeed
Pitor says:
just sad it doesnt use transports but its really impressive

Maelstrom says:
I would be absolutely astounded if they could get transports working
Maelstrom says:
So many additional states to search

Pitor says:
indeed its not easy as it augments a lot the numer of possibilties
Pitor says:
lol

Maelstrom says:
yup

Pitor says:
I would like to know if their AI use multples 'scales' of thinking
(strategic, tactic)

Maelstrom says:
So what field are you working on? You said something about chaos
theory? Neural nets?
Maelstrom says:
*nod*

Pitor says:
yes, im working in both subjects

Maelstrom says:
Interesting stuff
Maelstrom says:
I did some reasarch in Q-Learning, Genetic Algorithms, and Fuzzy Logic

Pitor says:
cool, so you know a little the domain
Pitor says:
do you know chaos ?

Maelstrom says:
Yup, only a little though Nope, never even heard about that branch.
I know some about nets

Pitor says:
im studying the role of chaos in neural nets

Maelstrom says:
Ahhh

Pitor says:
not an easy task

Maelstrom says:
Dang, doesn't sound lik eit!

Pitor says:
im sweating a lot

Maelstrom says:
heh
Maelstrom says:
cutting edge stuff?

Pitor says:
indeed cause these are two domains to link

Maelstrom says:
The only thing I know about Chaos theory comes from Jurrassic Park.
something about a Butterfly in Singapore causing a Tornado in Kansas

Pitor says:
lol
Pitor says:
yes its a start

Maelstrom says:
Way too over my head

Pitor says:
the main thing indeed is effectively this sensibility to inital
conditions, but there a lot of thers interesting things

Maelstrom says:
I think MA really has a lot to contribute to the AI field. Its the
next step up from Chess

Pitor says:
yes, bith game have some similarities
Pitor says:
MA is jsut much more complicted

Maelstrom says:
MA has a lot more situations, yeah
Maelstrom says:
But it totally can showcase AI if someone does some good research into
it

Pitor says:
I I completely agree. Not enough academic research in it ;-(

Maelstrom says:
Its a game where it is possible, but really taxes the limits of what we
know about optimization for it to match the best players
Maelstrom says:
They need to convert Deep Blue over to MA

Pitor says:
I agree but I think that its possible to do that
Pitor says:
im optimistic
Pitor says:
The main point i think is the compational resources problem

Maelstrom says:
Yup

Pitor says:
in this framework, there are a lot of possibilities to reduce it in
some sens

Maelstrom says:
I just thought of something... what if they had some kind of AI server
that had all sorts of powerful processing and memory space. We could
then send a turn to it, and then the Supercomputer works on the AI

Pitor says:
the point is that if you have limited resources you must use hem
smartly and I think that learning is a way to learn how to optimize your
resources

Maelstrom says:
But yeah, optimization is the key

Pitor says:
I agree with you,
Pitor says:
you can even imagine a classifier which learn different styles
according to the style of the opponent

Maelstrom says:
Smart distribution can go a long ways too
Maelstrom says:
Interesting! That would be cool!
Maelstrom says:
A completely dynamic AI

Pitor says:
Thats what I do personnaly whan Im playing
Pitor says:
Im adapting to the ay my opponent play
Pitor says:
way

Maelstrom says:
I've noticed! Yeah, you do that quite well

Pitor says:
but its just basic prototype I have in my head

Maelstrom says:
I remember you used those two smalls two outmanuver my High Resource on
a New Paradise game... quite well done

Pitor says:
thank you, but i just had luck in initial position

Maelstrom says:
Not with that High in the corner though! that was completely isolated!
The rest of the game was interesting, but thats where I really wanted
to win

Pitor says:
yes, I remember this was a kind of all or nothing game in this corner

Maelstrom says:
Yeah, thats true about strategies. Really for this AI to work out, a
lot of strategies need to be determined ahead of time, and the strategy
itself would determine how the units in an area are moved
Maelstrom says:
Did you read Quitch
Maelstrom says:
Quitch's article? Interesting stuff

Pitor says:
I didnt read his article
Pitor says:
ill do that. whats about ?

Maelstrom says:
It pretty much talked about dividing the map up into Zones
Maelstrom says:
It was applied to Total Annihilation, but it could be extended to MA

Pitor says:
ok, ill read it so we can discuss it here or on the forum

Maelstrom says:
*nod* Ok, best get back to work break over

Pitor says:
ok, see you soon

Maelstrom says:
Definately!
